There’s just something so playful about polka dots. You can’t be sad, draped in those little dots of happiness. They are fun, flirty, and flattering. They also add a certain innocence and femininity to anything they’re on. But you’d be surprised to know that polka dots were once considered a symbol of diseases such as smallpox and plague. It was only in the 19th century when they went from taboo to trendy. My closet may not be brimming with them but I certainly love this cheerful pattern on cheerful days. And so I decided to take out my navy polka dot blouse for one such day.
It’s still chilly here in the Pacific Northwest but when the sun is out, you can go without layering. Besides, it was kind of unfair to hide this beautiful wrap top under an oversized coat. The white polka dot pattern is already cute but the top’s puff sleeves add even more character and transform it into a dressy, polished piece that can work for any occasion.
Another thing that I love about this semi sheer navy polka dot blouse is its sweetheart neckline. The neckline also features diagonal crossed-over pleats that extend below the chest. Pleats have been absent from the fashion scene lately, so it was refreshing wearing this wrap top.
I decided to match the navy polka dot blouse with a pair of comfortable slacks. And let me tell you what bliss they have been. I am all for skinny jeans. In fact, almost half of my outfits feature jeans. But these days, I have been a staunch slacks fan. They’re not too tight and hang a little freely. While jeans are more on the casual side, slacks give you a formal, dressed up look. That too, with so much more comfort. The blouse could have been matched with a short skirt but in order to get a sleek and smart look, slacks were the best option.
I completed the look with a matching Chanel bag. Most of the bags I use have long straps to help me carry them conveniently. But with this outfit, I wanted to magnify the dressy element and choose a bag with a top handle. The bag is undoubtedly beautiful and features a quilted pattern all over along with the iconic golden CC logo. For shoes, nothing could have been better than these sling back heels that pull the whole look together perfectly.
This navy polka dot blouse look with slacks could be one of the cutest office looks for you. The good part is that it could also work for dinner dates and girls’ hangouts. Do you love polka dots? Tell me in the comments below while I plan some more playful outfits to share with you.
